Federal · 90 FR 9040 (Feb. 5, 2025); Noem v. National TPS Alliance, No. 25A326 · Signed Feb 5, 2025
Impact 7/10
On February 5, 2025, DHS terminated the 2023 TPS designation for Venezuela, stripping deportation protection and work authorization from about 348,000 people effective April 7, 2025; the separate 2021 designation covering roughly 250,000 more was terminated in September 2025. Lower courts twice blocked the terminations as unlawful, but the Supreme Court stayed those rulings in May and October 2025, allowing the terminations to take effect while appeals continue. Many affected Venezuelans have lost jobs and become subject to removal.
