Federal · EPA methane rule rollback · Aug 13, 2020
Impact 5/10

EPA's 2020 policy amendments rescinded methane emission standards for oil and gas production and processing and removed the transmission and storage segment from regulation entirely, eliminating requirements to monitor and repair methane leaks. Congress reversed the rollback in June 2021 through a Congressional Review Act resolution (S.J.Res. 14, Public Law 117-23), restoring the 2016 methane standards.
