Impact 6/10
The Rescissions Act of 2025, signed July 24, 2025, clawed back $1.1 billion in already-approved advance appropriations for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, following a May 2025 executive order directing CPB to stop funding NPR and PBS. CPB announced on August 1, 2025 that it would close, ending most operations by September 30, 2025 with a final wind-down through January 2026. More than 1,500 local public television and radio stations lost federal support, with stations serving rural areas most dependent on the grants; some have cut staff, programming, or gone off the air.
