On June 9, 2025, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. removed all 17 members of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which sets the recommendations that determine insurance coverage and Vaccines for Children eligibility, and named eight replacements two days later, several of them longtime critics of vaccine policy. The reconstituted panel went on to change longstanding recommendations, including a December 2025 vote to end the universal hepatitis B birth dose recommendation in favor of individual decision-making. State health departments and major medical societies have since issued their own schedules that depart from CDC recommendations.
