Florida · Florida SB 300 (2023), Heartbeat Protection Act, Ch. 2023-21 · Apr 13, 2023
Impact 5/10
Bans most abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant, replacing Florida's prior 15-week ban. Exceptions for rape, incest, and human trafficking apply only up to 15 weeks and require documentation, with additional exceptions for the life and health of the mother. The ban took effect May 1, 2024 after the Florida Supreme Court upheld the 15-week law, and a November 2024 ballot measure to overturn it received 57 percent but fell short of the required 60 percent.
